Unlocking the full potential of a circular economy requires a combination of innovation-driven environmental policy and strategic industrial policy. Since the end of 2024, the German Federal Government’s National Circular Economy Strategy (NKWS) has provided a reliable framework for achieving this goal.
On 3 June 2026, the Circular Economy Action Programme was adopted, under which the Federal Government will implement twelve measures by the end of 2027 to strengthen the German economy in this key area.
